HOW TO HAVE SEX TO GET PREGNANT

In short: Sperm needs to be there the precise moment the egg is ready.

If the average woman’s menstrual cycle is 28 days, this is generally about 14 days after your period starts, when the egg is released from the ovary (ovulation) and moves into the fallopian tube  If the egg meets a sperm, fertilization can occur.

The only chance of getting pregnant via sex is if the sperm is waiting for the egg in the fallopian tube or sperm meets the egg in the fallopian tube shortly after ovulation (within 12-24 hours). The best time for sex or insemination is the day before or the day of ovulation. However, sperm can live up to five days in the fallopian tube waiting for an egg. So sex 4-5 days before ovulation can lead to a baby, though it is less likely. We recommend having sex daily during your fertile window for your best chance at pregnancy

When the fertilized egg(s) reach the uterus implantation occurs and pregnancy actually begins. The process from conception to implantation usually lasts 6-12 days. For most successful pregnancies, implantation occurs 22-24 days after the first day of your last period.

Twins can occur if you happen to release two eggs at once and both eggs meet sperm or if the fertilized egg divides right at the beginning.

Does frequency of sex matter?

Not really, the important thing is to have sex on the day of ovulation or the prior two days. Intercourse is most likely to result in pregnancy when it occurs within the 3-day interval ending on the day of ovulation - so 2 days before. There is no merit to “saving up” sperm, in fact, it can make sperm less effective (ie. not as strong of swimmers).
