Preparing for Postpartum Baby Tracking
The first few days in a hospital with your newborn can feel both overwhelming but calm - oftentimes simultaneously - because you have a care team close by and people checking in on you, your partner, and your newborn every couple hours. Your care team will have you track your newborn’s feeding time, duration, and volume (if pumped milk or formula) as well as the volume of wet and dirty diapers. Once you return home, doing it all without a care team is even harder.
When you return home, continue tracking baby’s food intake and soiled diaper output. Your pediatrician will want to see this at Baby’s first appointment. You and your partner should keep this log at least for the first few days if not the first week of Baby’s life. This is to help you both notice their rhythm and would be able to notice a change in any behaviors.
