It’s hard to be a woman and not think about weight. You will gain weight in pregnancy and that can be difficult to reconcile. Talk with your healthcare provider or a mental health specialist if you think it will cause distress or anxiety. Your healthcare provider can also recommend nutritionists or dieticians who can help you optimize your health as you progress in your pregnancy. Here’s the general guidelines around weight gain by trimester based on “normal weight/BMI” pre-pregnancy:

  • First trimester: you might only gain around two to four pounds, or lose weight if you’ve had a lot of nausea and vomiting.

  • Second and third trimester: one pound/week, roughly 20-30 pounds.
